The Chair of Medical Biotechnology at FAU, together with its research partners at FAU, is delighted to have received funding of more than 1.4 million euros from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The project, submitted by Dr. Michael Haug, was evaluated as eligible for funding in the competitive VIP+ program.

Innovative tissue reconstruction for muscle injuries

The development of automated tissue reconstruction for functional muscle tissue with integrated vascular and nerve connectivity for the treatment of muscle injuries is of great importance, particularly in view of the lack of organ donations.
Non-invasive quality analyses minimize fluctuations in tissue quality – a decisive advance for tissue engineering. This could make the production of muscle regenerates more efficient and cost-effective, with prospects for a future spin-off.

VIP+ funding program

With the VIP+ funding program, the BMBF supports innovative projects that build on excellent basic research results. The aim is to examine research results with a high innovation potential both in terms of their potential for commercial exploitation and areas of application.
