Meet your (future) Professors Prof. Dr. Blumenthal and Prof. Dr. Castellini!

Whether you are just starting your studies this winter semester or you are already in the middle of your medical engineering degree, it can be very interesting to learn more about your (future) professors! Prof. Dr. David B. Blumenthal and Prof. Dr. Claudio Castellini joined FAU in 2021 after having gained valuable experiences at universities all over Europe and now give classes for medical engineering students at FAU.

Prof. Dr. Blumenthal is Head of the Biomedical Network Science Lab and member of the Department of Artificial Intelligence in Biomedical Engineering at FAU. His team does research on AI models and algorithms to better understand molecular mechanisms that drive complex diseases.

Prof. Dr. Castellini is Head of the Assistive Intelligent Robotics (AIROB) Lab and member of the Department of Artificial Intelligence in Biomedical Engineering. His fields of research are medical robotics, rehabilitation and assistive robotics, human-machine interfaces and interaction, and applied machine learning.

Medical engineering students at FAU can take “Network Medicine”, “Project Biomedical Network Science” or “Algorithmic Bioinformatics” with Prof. Dr. Blumenthal, and Prof. Dr. Castellini teaches “Upper-Limb Prosthetics”, “Human-Robot Co-Adaptation” and “Hands on Rehabilitation and Assistive Robotics”, to just name a few. (If you are a student and want to see a complete list of their classes in the coming winter semester, check out the course catalog.) Did this spark your interest?
